My brother's Venerable Dreadnaught

My brother Jesse has this old Warhammer 40K Dreadnaught. It is awesome! I need to find one on eBay and add one to my army! Anyhoo, Jesse left this unbased, unpainted original 40k dreadnaught at my house yesterday! Now, it is fair to say that Jesse doesn't dig the painting of Citadel Models nearly as much as I do. Hence, I have decided to paint this one for him as a surprise.

Jess, if you are reading my Warhammer New Braunfels blog: surprise!

I started by putting this old dreadnaught on a modern base (it originally came on a square base... square bases aren't used anymore in Warhammer 40K). After that I turned to my Citadel Basing Kit. I added some debris and a blasted out Eldar helmet to the feet of this Venerable Dreadnaught.

Next I covered the base with white glue (known as PVA glue to modeling enthusiasts) and spread small slate (also from the basing kit) all over the base.
Next I'll lay down a base coat of green paint. Jesse is gonna love this!

After the green base coat comes a drybrush of grey...

Then a drybrush of bone white...
